Missionary to a Generation

As I sit here at Bush International Airport – Houston, I can’t express the excitement, anxiety and overwhelming joy I have to be on mission. 12 years ago, I set out on my first missionary journey thinking it would be strictly foreign countries I would go to. Ironically, it all started with Macedonia; however, I’m no stranger to travel.

In my short 48 years, I have lived in 6 states, visited 14 and passed through another 25. I’ve lived in 3 countries, visited 9 and passed through 5. I have literally been to all corners of Texas. Even with such a travel resume, I have not experienced the fullness of everything our world has to offer.

A few years back, while on youth mission, my friend Jim White coined the phrase I have adopted as my official tag line. Even when I pastored a church recently and in business employment, I never liked using my official title of “Pastor” or “Manager”. I see my life journey, role and very existence as a “Missionary to a Generation”. My former pastor and dear friend, Jason Bollinger, used to say “if you can’t be on mission to your community, you won’t be on mission to the nations” (or something like that).

Jason’s words have stuck with me the last 7 years and only confirms my heart’s desire, passion and fulfillment. Although, I just returned from London 2 weeks ago supporting my wife, Becky Miller, on her mission to raise funds for Links International, getting ready to return to Macedonia for 2 weeks and will journey to Kenya in the fall for my 5th time, I go with a host of prayers, financial support and encouragement. It is all my local and national relationships in Christ through mission, community and discipleship that gives me the courage, empowerment and passion by the Holy Spirit.

I am humbled, honored and blessed to go where others can not. I know I don’t go alone. All of you who pray and have given financially go with me. Thank you for your faith, trust and confidence in the “Christ in me, my hope of Glory.” Please continue to pray and sow financially into our ministry. As I go, you go; as I serve the least of these, you serve them too; whomever comes to Christ by my going, you stand with me to receive them.

“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” – Matthew 10:40-42

Humbly,
